Sustainability Update from the 70th Quadrennial Convention

Ahead of the IA District Conventions in July, Local 829 United Scenic Artists authored and submitted the “Sustainability Resolution” for consideration. The Resolution explained the history of the 2019 IATSE Green Committee and how it was established with the expressed objective that “the IATSE do its part in the fight against climate change.” It gave context to how the climate crisis has been impacting the workplaces of IATSE members, who often work outside in extreme heat and cold conditions. In an effort to protect the health and safety of our crews, the Resolution stated that IATSE should encourage every Local Union to endorse carbon-neutral productions and establish best practices to reduce waste on every set, stage, and shop.

The Resolution was first endorsed by Districts 1, 2, 3, 7, and 10. Then, during the Quadrennial Convention, on July 31, it was presented as Resolution No. 13 to IA members in the Resolution Book. The motion carried, and the Resolution was approved.
