City/State Sustainability News Update: Illinois Tax Incentive and Burbank Waste Ordinance

Several states and cities have been pushing for a more sustainable future. Here is an update on a few initiatives across the country.

Illinois Sustainability Tax Incentive

Illinois becomes the first state to have a Sustainability incentive as part of its wider state tax incentive for film production. In 2025, the Illinois General Assembly expanded the Illinois Film Production Tax Credit Act. There is now a 5% additional credit given to productions that have certified Sustainability plans in place.

Burbank’s Waste Reduction Regulations Ordinance

Effective January 1 of this year, the city of Burbank prohibits Burbank food service businesses from providing disposable foodware for customers dining on-site. The Waste Reduction Regulations Ordinance, which was adopted back in March of 2024, mandates better foodware options and eliminates unnecessary dining accessories in order to cut down on plastic litter, stormwater pollution, and resource consumption.
