Letter from IATSE International President Matthew Loeb (Nov. 17, 2022)

Dear IATSE Member,

We’re all a little tired of hearing about politics, but the runoff election on Dec. 6 for the U.S. Senate is too important to tune out. The winner of this runoff will represent the working people of Georgia for the next six years and cast important votes on issues like union rights, retirement security, and health care costs. We need a candidate who will represent us and vote with our needs in mind, not the wealthy.

We’ve carefully reviewed the records for both candidates for U.S. Senate and believe that Rev. Raphael Warnock is the best choice for our members and for Georgia working families.

Sen. Warnock has been an ally of the IATSE since his election – from supporting our legislative priorities like the PRO Act and American Rescue Plan to standing with us in our organizing and bargaining fights with the AMPTP and the Atlanta Opera. In his first two years in the Senate, Warnock has lowered costs for prescription drugs and capped out-of-pocket expenses for seniors. He’s secured funds to repair our roads and bridges, expand internet access, and improve our water and sewer system while creating good jobs. And he’s made sure more goods are made here in America, not overseas.

I’m sure you’ve heard about Herschel Walker’s numerous, disturbing scandals. But more important to our members is his stance on the issues. He opposed lowering health care costs, opposed investments in clean energy, opposed vital funding for our highway system.

And we know he’s no friend to working people; he’s repeatedly benefitted from unpaid labor instead of respecting workers and paying them fairly. There’s no way we can trust Walker to help working people in Washington, but Raphael Warnock has a proven record of delivering results.

When union members stand together, our voice is undeniable and that’s as true at the ballot box as it is at work. Early voting is available in all counties Nov. 28 - Dec. 2 and Election Day is Dec 6. Get important information about voting and remember to vote for the candidate who puts working people first.

In solidarity,

Matthew D. Loeb
International President, IATSE
